Introduction

The DVB-H (Digital Video Broadcast – Handheld) Electronic Service Guide (ESG) specification defines an ESG data model to describe available mobile TV services. The ESG data model is defined based on XML Schema and it is aimed at being consistent across all implementations of a system to ensure interoperability.

This software ("DVB-H ESG Simulator") uses Extensible Stylesheet Language (XSL) to transform the XML-based ESG Instance of the ESG Data Model into a visual preview of the ESG on a DVB-H capable mobile device. "DVB-H ESG Simulator" can be used to experiment with DVB-H ESG XML files, or to create screen captures (e.g. illustrations for DVB-H trials etc). Beta 2 onwards support playback of MPEG4 AVC video streams.


About the DVB-H Standard

DVB-H is an open procedure standard developed by the DVB Project and enjoys broad industry support with more than 100 companies working on DVB-H components, devices and services today. The open approach of the DVB-H standard nurtures flexibility of business models, competition and sales opportunities for the value chain. The DVB-H standard incorporates OFDM air interface technology with good spectral efficiency, immunity to multi-path fading and good mobile performance.


Usage

Create or edit a DVB-H ESG XML File with an XML editor, e.g. XMLFox Advance XML Editor. To view, open the updated ESG XML in Microsoft Internet Explorer (IE) 6 web browser.

For previewing services (mobile TV channels), insert the following line into the DVB-H ESG XML File: "xml-stylesheet type="text/xsl" href="TVH_DVB-H_ESG/XXXX_YYYY/Preview_ESG_Service.xsl". For previewing contents (mobile TV programmes), insert the following line into the DVB-H ESG XML File: "xml-stylesheet type="text/xsl" href="TVH_DVB-H_ESG/XXXX_YYYY/Preview_ESG_Content.xsl"

Where XXXX_YYYY represents the manufacturer name and model number of the DVB-H mobile device. The following DVB-H Mobile Phones are supported:
