Tea Vui Huang’s ‘ID3 OTP Scratch Tracks’ takes the rudimentary ‘Non-Hardware-Based One-Time-Password Scratch Cards’ back to the digital age by relocating the rows & columns of challenge responses from a printed card onto a generic MP3 player.

This is achieved by creating a digital album of MP3 audio tracks with the columns of challenge responses transcribed to the song titles. For example: If a user is prompted for the challenge response to ‘C4’, he/she just needs to scroll to track 3 (with the song title prefix ‘C)’, and read the 4th alphanumeric character from the left, after the prefix. For the case of ‘C) 3 5 9 2 6’, the response would be ‘2’.

Placing the OTP scratch card on an MP3 player makes it convenient to refer and transport. This combination facilitates a practical duo-use of a commonly held personal device and taps on the familiar music-browsing interface of MP3 players. The end result is viewable on all existing MP3 players with display screens. The music players range from a basic Dell DJ Ditty to the latest Sony NW-A3000/NW-A1000 Walkman.
